This technique has been used for centuries; it is accomplished by folding the material into a pattern, and binding it with string or rubber bands. The material is then immersed in dye solution. The ties prevent the entire material from being dyed. Designs are formed by applying different colors of dyes to different sections of the wet fabric.

The Workshop on Tie-Dye was conducted at School by Ms. Parul Kapur, lecturer, Garment technology, Government Polytechnic on 26th June 2010. The High School students and their parents who participated tried different techniques.

The dyes used at the workshop were natural- turmeric, beetroot, tea and coffee. The end products looked bright and beautiful.
